History
Access Credit Union began on October 14th 1939 as Zenith Radio Credit Union. In the 1980’s and early 1990’s Zenith began moving manufacturing jobs to Mexico and layoffs began at manufacturing locations in the Chicago area. The credit union needed to figure how to grow as its Zenith membership base was shrinking. In the ten year period ending in 1995 the credit union merged with 11 smaller credit unions in the Chicago area. Included in these credit unions were All Saints Bridgeport Credit Union, Proviso Credit Union and I.B.E.W. Credit Union. The credit union changed its name to Access Credit Union in 1998 to reflect its changing make-up. The credit union’s most recent mergers were in 2004 with Morton Employees and Headco Industries Credit Unions, 2008 with Curtiss Employees FCU, and 2012 with Alliance Financial Credit Union.
