Chicago Post Office Employees Credit Union has been serving employees of the Chicago Postal Service for over 95 years. Membership is open to active and retired employees of the Chicago Postal Service and their immediate family members.
History
Established in 1928, Chicago Post Office Employees Credit Union is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving Postal employees and their families by making their financial lives easier through savings, loans and smart investing. Beginning with humble roots in the hallways of the main postal facility in downtown Chicago, the formation of CPOECU was the result of two postal employees brainstorming on ways to provide financial assistance to different crafts of postal workers.
Over 95 years later, the Credit Union has seen a number of changes – including a growing membership, expanding to include family members and affiliate organizations, new and more efficient products, and the adoption of online and digital services. Today, we serve close to 5000 members and operate out of 2 branch locations.
CPOECU also strongly embraces the credit union mission of "People Helping People," offering support not only to our members, but to the surrounding communities. In recent years as part of our philanthropic efforts, we have established a financial literacy program for youth, an annual scholarship program, and regularly contribute donations such as school supplies and toys to a number of community organizations.
Being a not-for-profit means we strive to always put our members’ needs first. Whether it’s a personal or auto loan, or saving for upcoming expenses or retirement, our credit union is dedicated to offering competitive rates and tailored, personalized support. For close to a century, CPOECU has proudly partnered with postal workers for their financial needs. And as we look ahead, we remain committed – with a focus on creating financial inclusion, empowerment and well-being for all.
