History

Meridian Trust Federal Credit Union has produced landmark successes and expansive growth. Chartered in Cheyenne in January 1954, a small office opened two months later in the State Board of Charities and Reform.

In 1955, the credit union was moved to a basement storage room in the Wyoming State Capital, where volunteers took deposits for their fellow state employees. Known then as Wyoming Employees Federal Credit Union, it hired its first full-time employee in 1958. After spending a year working out of a garage facility behind the Wyoming Travel Commission, the current property at 2223 Warren Avenue in downtown Cheyenne was purchased in 1977.

Meridian Trust began opening more branches across the state, including in Lander, Jackson and Rawlins, and its first branch outside the Wyoming border, into Scottsbluff, Nebraska in 2013 and in 2020, we opened a branch in northern Colorado in the town of Wellington. In January of 2021, we opened our third branch in our home city of Cheyenne to serve residents, workers, and commuters in the northern section of the capital city.
