Founded right here in Paducah by hardworking employees of the Illinois Central Railroad, Signet began with a single volunteer and a shared vision—to create better financial opportunities for everyday people.

Today, that same mission continues to guide everything we do. As the oldest locally founded financial institution still operating in Paducah, Signet proudly serves individuals and families across the region. History
Signet Federal Credit Union was built from the ground up by hardworking people who believed in taking care of one another. It all started in Paducah with employees of the Illinois Central Railroad—later the Illinois Central Gulf—who came together with a simple idea: create a financial institution that worked for them, not against them. What began with one volunteer operating out of the basement of the railroad building quickly grew into something much bigger—neighbors helping neighbors build better lives.

As the railroad industry evolved, so did Signet. From its early days serving railroad families, the credit union expanded to meet the needs of communities across Western Kentucky. Through decades of change—economic shifts, industry transitions, and growth across the region—Signet remained steady in its purpose. While other institutions focused on profits and shareholders, Signet stayed rooted in its cooperative model, reinvesting back into its members and the communities it serves.

Today, Signet stands as the oldest locally founded financial institution still operating in Paducah—a testament to the strength and resilience of Western Kentucky. Built by the people of this region and still serving them today, Signet continues to carry forward that same spirit: hardworking, community-driven, and committed to helping every member move forward.
