Statewide Credit Union has a rich history rooted in service, growth, and a deep commitment to its members across the state of Mississippi. What began as a small, volunteer-run organization has evolved into one of the state’s leading financial institutions, built on trust, relationships, and a member-first philosophy that continues to guide its mission today.

History

Statewide was founded by Bob Ashley in 1949 as the Jackson USDA Federal Credit Union, originally serving USDA employees throughout Mississippi. As word spread about the credit union’s valuable savings and lending opportunities, demand quickly grew, and so did its membership.

In 1990, Statewide expanded its reach by merging with the Mississippi Educational Credit Union, marking the beginning of a period of steady growth. Since then, six additional credit unions have merged with Statewide, strengthening its foundation and extending its impact. In 2000, the organization adopted the name “Statewide” to better reflect the diverse and expanding membership it serves.

Today, Statewide proudly supports more than 80 membership groups and over 22,000 members. As one of the fastest growing credit unions in Mississippi, it continues to maintain strong financial ratings while upholding a tradition of conservative, member-focused leadership.

For generations, Statewide has been planting roots, building trust, and fostering meaningful relationships across the state. At its core, Statewide remains united in purpose, one team dedicated to its members and the communities it serves.
